Storytellers of New Mexico is an outgrowth of its
predecessor, Storytellers International, Inc.™. Founded in 1985 by M.
Ellien Carroll, Storytellers International was a non-profit educational
organization dedicated to preserving cultures and increasing communication
through the art of storytelling. Annual
events included a week-long Storyfiesta™, a Faith and Families conference
and Tellabration, an international night of storytelling.
Storytellers International’s presence in New Mexico
ended when its founder retired to California. Members of the original
organization were instrumental in founding a new nonprofit organization
devoted to the preservation and appreciation of storytelling, Storytellers
of New Mexico, Inc. (STNM), which continues to this day. 2012 marks the 15th year since
STNM Mission Statement
